Camp Hoblitzelle Camp and Conference Center (www.hoblitzelle.com) is a Salvation Army facility located just an hour south of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in an area featuring gently rolling hills, giant mesquite trees, bluebonnet fields and plenty of room for getting away from it all. The retreat center offers first-class, climate controlled facilities in beautiful natural surroundings for use by churches, school groups, service organization, government agencies and non-profits. The camp recently commissioned a new 11,000 sq. ft. outdoor pavilion with multi-purpose area, fireplace, stage, and air conditioned concession and restroom areas.
A general contractor in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area contracted Structural Wood Components in early 2010 to furnish (20) heavy timber trusses, over (400) pieces of loose timber and over (350) pieces of custom-fabricated timber connection hardware comprising the main roof support structure for the pavilion. Included above were (7) 65-foot span Glulam Scissor Trusses, (12) solid pine Bracing Trusses linking the Scissor Trusses, and a single 6-3/4” x 35-3/4” Glulam beam. Scissor truss members were 6-3/4” x 12-3/8” glulams. All hardware was galvanized after fabrication for the exterior installation.
Structural Wood Components fabricated the trusses and all custom hardware joining these components. Our CAD designer worked with the customer to modify several connections requiring design changes during the planning phase of the project. Using Microsoft Project, we project managed procurement of all components, manufacturing of assemblies and delivery. The job was completed ahead of the customer’s scheduled delivery date and in time for use by summer guests.
